"Mahogany Dialogues" artist Series to Feature Pioneering Artist Della Wells
We are excited to announce Mahogany Gallery & Mahogany Black Arts and Cultural Center has partnered with the UW-Parkside College of Arts and Humanities to feature Della Wells in A Mahogany Dialogues, a new discussion series designed to uplift and celebrate Black and Brown creative voices in the arts, in all its forms. Mahogany Dialogues is an artist talk series featuring Change Makers in the Arts, people who continue to use their creative gifts to change the world and make it a better place.
Della Wells is a visual storyteller whose work conveys the vibrancy of our complex histories and experiences. Wells’ work has appeared in various publications including Self Taught, Outsider, and Folk Art Guide to American Artists, Locations, and Resources by Betty-Carol Sellen and Cynthia J. Johanson. Her work has been exhibited in Europe and throughout the U.S. in folk art and outsider art galleries and has also been presented annually at the Outsider Art Fair in New York.
A play about her life, “Don’t Tell Me I Can’t Fly” was written for a performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D. C. The play was also presented in Wisconsin. She has illustrated two children’s books.
